At least seven missile impacts struck the Energiya military plant in Yelets, Russia, according to open-source intelligence community Exilenova+. The group released new photographs on 26 October showing extensive damage to the facility in Lipetsk Oblast.
The Energiya plant is Russia’s only manufacturer of batteries for guidance and correction modules used in aerial bombs. Exilenova+ reported that Ukrainian forces attacked the site on 25 October, likely using Storm Shadow cruise missiles. The analysts noted that hits were recorded on several different buildings within the complex.
Analyst Harbuz from Dnipro Osint examined the released imagery and concluded that both primary plant buildings were hit. Harbuz stated that one building was physically destroyed while the other was gutted by fire from the inside. These two structures may be critical to the facility’s production capabilities.
Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed the attack earlier, reporting a hit on a workshop producing power cells. The batteries manufactured in Yelets are used in the production of Iskander-M cruise missiles, Zircon ballistic missiles, RM-48U missiles, and 95Ya6 surface-to-air missiles for Pantsir air defense systems. They are also used in Kh-47M2 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles.
Exilenova+ described the target as more than an ordinary battery plant. The group noted that its products are used to manufacture weapons that Russia employs in daily strikes against Ukraine. This attack follows similar strikes on other industrial targets, including the Proton-Electrotex plant in Oryol on 23 October and the Tolyattikauchuk plant in Tolyatti on 24 October.
