Israeli police announced on Monday that the body of a man in his 40s, a resident of East Jerusalem, was discovered in the Wadi Rahal area near Bethlehem. Officers, forensic specialists, and soldiers from the Israel Defense Forces collected evidence at the scene before the body was scheduled for transfer to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute. Initial assessments indicated the incident was criminal in nature rather than terror-related, a conclusion police offered to distinguish the case from recent regional security concerns.

The death is part of a series of operations conducted over the weekend that spanned the West Bank and central Israel. On Sunday night, security forces raided a home in Bethlehem based on intelligence suggesting the occupant had ties to Hamas. Three suspects were detained during the activity. Investigators seized a loaded hunting rifle, uniforms from the IDF, and various technological items. The suspects face charges for carrying and possessing illegal weapons as well as unauthorized possession of military equipment.

A separate search near Hebron led to the arrest of a man in his 30s who possessed a hunting rifle and a substantial amount of ammunition. In Kalansuwa, a majority-Arab city in central Israel, police uncovered a large cache of weapons stolen from the IDF. The operation, designed to reduce violent crime in the Arab sector, yielded one Kalashnikov rifle, three M-16 assault rifles, eight handguns, six fragmentation grenades, two stun grenades, three tactical vests, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. Two family members present at the site were arrested and taken for questioning.

In Rahat, police rescued a man found chained to the floor of a home during an operation to confiscate illegal weapons. The man’s leg was shackled, and preliminary findings suggest he was confined by his own family due to drug use. His brother was subsequently arrested and taken to the local police station for questioning. These coordinated efforts reflect a sustained push to secure areas through targeted raids and evidence collection.

The discovery of the weapons in Kalansuwa required the dispatch of a police explosives expert to handle the grenades. All seized items were submitted as potential evidence, and investigations into the arrests remain ongoing. The simultaneous operations in Bethlehem, Hebron, Kalansuwa, and Rahat illustrate the geographic scope of the current security initiative.
