A 48-hour ceasefire will take effect in Oleshky, Kherson Oblast, starting on the night of October 27. The general staffs of Ukraine and Russia announced the agreement on Friday evening to facilitate a humanitarian operation in the occupied town. The pause is designed to clear a path for relief supplies and the evacuation of residents.

Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, confirmed that the aid mission is scheduled for October 29. He stated that the operation will proceed under the protection of the agreed truce. The goal is to restore access to the town, deliver essential food and medicine, and enable civilians to leave the combat zone.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed reliance on American mediation to make the arrangement work. In a video address, he described the conditions in Oleshky as "extremely dire" and noted that Russian forces have mined roads in the occupied part of the region. He said, "Ukraine will do its part. We count on American mediation to work."

The White House issued a statement crediting US First Lady Melania Trump with securing the truce. The administration described a humanitarian disaster as currently unfolding in the town. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia agreed to the ceasefire specifically so the humanitarian mission could proceed.

Talks regarding the arrangement have continued at various levels for some time. Zelenskyy indicated that a formal agreement should be put into effect soon. The designated area for the ceasefire will remain quiet for two days to allow logistics teams to operate safely.
