Latvia's National Armed Forces said on Saturday 24 October that they had located debris from a drone that came down in the Alūksne district. The military stated the unmanned aircraft likely entered Latvian airspace on 18 October.

The initial response began after authorities received a report of a noise resembling an explosion. The armed forces and State Police searched for a crash site but halted the effort after two days, saying the available information was insufficient to establish what had occurred. Officials confirmed no civilians were hurt, no civilian infrastructure was damaged, and no further threats were identified.

An investigation into the circumstances of the event is underway. Authorities also opened an internal review to assess how the incident unfolded and the factors surrounding it.

The discovery follows a related event across the region. On Sunday 18 October, suspected drone wreckage that violated airspace was found in Juodžionys village, Pasvalys district, Lithuania. Lithuania reported the drone entered its airspace from Poland. Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius said the drone contained explosives. Heorhii Tykhyi, spokesman for Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the Lithuanian incident was likely the result of Russian electronic warfare measures and added that Ukraine expressed regret over what happened.
