Jacob Luna, 31, was formally charged on Sunday night after a violent exchange of gunfire with San Antonio police. The incident concluded with Luna in critical condition at a local hospital, where doctors expect him to survive.

The confrontation began around 6:15 p.m. near the 1700 block of Horal Drive. Undercover agents were monitoring a man sought on a narcotics arrest warrant. Police said the suspect noticed their presence and displayed a firearm from his vehicle window before opening fire.

Luna fled the scene in his car. The vehicle was involved in several collisions before crashing into a tree. He abandoned the car and ran on foot but collapsed shortly after the accident. Officers took him into custody and identified multiple gunshot wounds.

No police officers were injured during the engagement. The department stated that the four involved officers have between eight and 10 years of service. All four were placed on administrative duty pending further review.

Luna faces two charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance. The San Antonio Police Department confirmed his identity and the details of the arrest in an official update.
