Marquette Savings Bank:
Marquette Savings Bank of Erie recently announced its decision to sell one of its Meadville banking properties to a neighboring non-banking entity. The property in question is the drive-thru-only branch located at 349 North St., and it is set to be acquired by Country Fair Inc., a convenience store chain based in Erie. The branch is scheduled to cease operations on March 29 at 6 p.m.
Country Fair Inc., known for its 72 convenience stores across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York, already operates two locations in the Meadville area. These include sites at 18163 Conneaut Lake Road in Vernon Township and 333 North St., at the intersection of North and North Main streets in Meadville. Notably, the North Street location of Country Fair is adjacent to Marquette’s drive-thru-only office on North Street.
Steve Danch, chairman of Marquette’s board of trustees, explained that Country Fair has been considering options for additional parking and storage space at its North and Main streets location.
However, officials from Country Fair Inc. could not be reached for comment regarding their plans or any timeline for potential changes despite attempts to contact them via email and telephone.
The Meadville Zoning Hearing Board granted a special exception for 349 North St. on January 18, allowing it to serve as extra parking and storage space for Country Fair’s North Street location. This approval was a necessary step for the land sale to proceed.
Danch reassured that Marquette will uphold its commitment to the Meadville community with the continuation of its full-service walk-in and drive-thru location at 1075 Park Ave., which is in close proximity, approximately three-quarters of a mile away from the North Street branch.
He further emphasized that no banking jobs would be lost due to the closure of the North Street branch, as affected employees would have the opportunity to transfer to other Marquette locations in the Meadville area.
Aside from the Park Avenue and North Street branches, Marquette maintains another full-service office in the Meadville area, situated at 16272 Conneaut Lake Road in Vernon Township.
