Ukrainian soldiers have used drones to send baby food, milk and toys to families with children living in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky in Kherson Oblast. According to Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi, 15 parcels with a combined weight of more than 600 kg reached the city.
The delivery was carried out by troops from the Bolharychi special-purpose company of the National Guard's 11th Brigade. The parcels held breakfast cereals, milk, educational games and toys.
The servicemen said they continue to look after residents of Kherson Oblast despite the occupation, with a particular focus on families raising children in blockaded Oleshky. Some of those children were born after Russia began its full-scale invasion and have spent their whole lives under occupation.
The National Guard expressed thanks to everyone who helped prepare and deliver the aid. That included the drone operators and the military personnel who provided cover during the operation.
The situation in the city has been severe for months. As of June 2026, 40 children in Oleshky were living without access to gas or water.
Diplomatic efforts around the city have also drawn attention. The White House previously announced that US First Lady Melania Trump had secured a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in Oleshky, where a humanitarian disaster is unfolding. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia agreed to the ceasefire in order to allow a humanitarian mission into the city.
Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, said that the humanitarian operation and the accompanying ceasefire in Oleshky are due to take place on 29 October.
