Sam Fender has reduced the highest standing ticket price for his Wembley show to 98.85 pounds, abandoning a premium tier that initially cost 130.75 pounds. The 32-year-old musician made the change after followers on Instagram criticized the pricing structure for the Proper Massive tour. He stated that the initial figures did not reflect his intentions for the event.
The controversy began when a user named Gavin Davis posted details of the standing ticket options for the London date. The original listing separated standing areas into front and back zones. Front standing tickets were set at 130.75 pounds, while standard standing tickets were priced at 98.85 pounds. Seated tickets ranged from 64.75 pounds to 130.75 pounds.
Fender replied directly to the post to address the price gap. He explained that ticket costs should mirror the actual expenses of staging the production. The singer argued that ticketing partners should not use price increases to create additional profit margins beyond those costs.
The artist also criticized the division of standing areas into distinct tiers. He described the practice as bollocks and confirmed that the front-row setup would not be used for his tour. Fender noted that the system had become a standard in live music, despite his confusion over why it remained common.
High prices were not unique to the Wembley date. Listings for other cities on the tour also showed standing tickets exceeding 100 pounds. In Newcastle, the highest price reached 112.90 pounds. Cardiff listed top tickets at 119 pounds, and Manchester’s top price was 119.60 pounds. Edinburgh had the highest price point in the UK lineup at 120.95 pounds.
General ticket sales for the tour are scheduled to begin on Friday, with a presale opening on Wednesday morning. The tour will take place across the summer of 2027. Fender is set to perform at major venues including St James’s Park in Newcastle, the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Marley Park in Dublin, Murrayfield in Edinburgh, and the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.
The singer joins other artists who have publicly challenged high live music costs. In August, Swedish pop singer Zara Larsson expressed similar views in a TikTok video. She stated that tickets for her Bangkok show were very expensive and that she wanted more involvement in the pricing process. Larsson noted that financial barriers prevented many fans from attending her concerts.
Fender confirmed earlier this week that a fourth studio album is in the works. He has not yet revealed the title or cover art for the new project. The release follows his 2025 album People Watching, which won a Mercury prize. The singer has won five Brit awards and recently collaborated with Olivia Dean on the single Rein Me In, which spent 23 weeks at number one on the UK singles chart.
